Eldest Daughters

You aren't alone. Eldest daughter therapy provides a container for your experiences and an alchemical container to transform the beliefs that have left you burned out, stressed, and lonely.

Perimenopause

Mental health during perimenopause is an often neglected part of the story of women in midlife. At Holdest we're changing that and helping you reclaim your power, and yourself.

Complex Trauma

PTSD and cPTSD are entirely different issues. And while many trauma therapists are well versed in the treatment of PTSD far fewer understand the nuance needed for cPTSD care.

For Therapists

Therapists carry the hurts, fears, and struggles of their clients with strict confidence that often creates isolation, distress, and the possibility of vicarious trauma.

For Clergy

Clergy are a unique form of caring professional who not only carry the burdens of their communities and the weight of teaching and soul care, but often unrealistic expectations & severe isolation.

For Growth & Understanding

Maybe there's nothing "wrong" right now, maybe you really want to get to know yourself better, to make decisions about the future from a wise place, or to begin to make meaning of your life. That too deserves care and a space for exploration...

I came to therapy first in the midst of an enormous amount of change in my life, in my vocation, identity, and relationships. My first experience of therapy was behavioral. The tools my therapist taught me were helpful, but years later I found myself mired in the same questions, struggling with the same issues because we had not actually addressed the root of the problems I was facing. We had attended only to the ways those issues were impacting my behavior.

My second journey through therapy was Jungian, and it was a very different experience. In some ways much slower, more patient. My therapist was happy to offer tools to help me cope in the moment, but he was not content to stop there. Instead he encouraged my curiosity about my own life, about how I became who I am and who I want to become. I found myself awed by the wisdom that came through my dreams, the way my life made so much sense when viewed through the lens of folk tales and cultural myths, and how teasing out symbol and meaning helped me make sense of my past, understand the why of my self-beliefs and behaviors, and foster lasting change and empowerment.

Therapy is not just about getting you back to being a productive worker, a juggle-everything super-Mom, the one "no one has to worry about." Therapy is about putting down the mask, opening the gates of our soul and getting curious with a trusted guide. Therapy is about allowing yourself to be seen, by your therapist and by your self, maybe for the first time ever.

Our culture values action, certainty, power, and dominance in all things: including healing. But such lopsided concepts of healing leave us feeling as if we have failed, when truly we've only had half the tools we need, we have exiled whole parts of our being. At Holdfast I lean into mystery, rest, stillness, liminal space, vulnerability as strength, and the wondrous power of your nervous system to heal itself.

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.

Feel like there's a connection but don't necessarily fit one of the neat boxes above? That's OK I work with a wide variety of people. I have quite a bit of experience with:

  • Identity issues
  • Trauma, both recent and past especially complex trauma and childhood abuse and neglect (PTSD/CPTSD)
  • Loss of meaning
  • Anxiety, panic attacks
  • Grief & loss including anticipatory grief
  • Times of transition (e.g. perimenopause/menopause, loss, pregnancy, gender transition, life stage transition, career change, divorce, marriage)
  • Care-giver support (adjusting to changes in relationship, care-giver stress, burnout, grief)
  • Discernment issues around career, values, relationships, or building meaning and purpose in life

Because of my approach, I also see psychotherapy as a process of self care and growth, and especially enjoy working with individuals who would like to use therapy as a  means of self-exploration.

If you are ready to experience the benefits of psychotherapy, tell your own story, and begin to build healthier relationships and a meaning filled life, reach out! I look forward to meeting you.
